The Cupcake Bakery
459 Collins St, Melbourne

We were super excited when the sign Cupcake Bakery was posted in one of the vacant shops in Intercontinental Hotel- after all, who doesn’t love cupcakes? Finally, one sunny day in July, the Cupcake Bakery opened-lines and lines of colourful cupcakes were displayed proudly in the shop window: choc-choc, choc mint, strawberry swirl, lemon & poppy seed, carrot cupcakes… and they are the normal ones!

Women like us swarmed the shop, and by lunch time, most of the exotic ones are sold out- no more tiramisu cupcakes, lemon meringue cupcakes and molton choc cupcakes
So all I could try is the vanilla swirl and the lemon and poppy seed cupcake- they are quite nice, but to be honest, they look nicer than they tasted…they are slightly dry. I would much prefer a moist, crabapple cupcake than the one in Cupcake Bakery.
Does anyone also notice that the cupcake craze is sweeping over Melbourne? First there’s Little Cupcakes, then there’s Cupcake Bakery, then there’s one that’s opening up in QV. Let’s see how that one fares with Crabapple, shall we?

We also stumbled across Darren Purchese’s demo on making yummie desserts. Darren, who used to work for Vue de Monde, cooked up a beautiful looking chocolate pav. I don’t normally like pav but a chocolate pav sounds good! I actually ran up afterwards to see if I can try some
And Darren was like sure! But the MC was like no, sorry, OH&S issues whilst shoving that dessert into his mouth all that time!
Hummppphhhh

This is one of my favourite French Crepe places in Melbourne. This tiny little place is very cosy and on this rainy day after a horrible run, we had breakkie here.

There it is- my beautiful Little Egg Cakes- I have been eating this every since I have memory- crispy in the outside, and when you eat all the edges off and open up the middle bit- there’s a fluffy little “yolk” on the inside-I simply CANNOT live without this and it’s one of the things I missed most about HK.
There’s a cafe in Box Hill and one in Sydney chinatown that I know of that makes this- let me say- sh*thouse. You’ve got to go to HK to get this. They also sell waffles with peanut butter and sugar *moans* Yumgasmic!
