UPDATE: Interview on 4BC Radio – March 22nd 2011 [5MB download]
West End Central was closed for 7 weeks due to flooding. They experienced a lot of issues trying to reopen and felt helpless that they couldn’t get the electricity back on and were unable to provide work or income for their staff. In addition they weren’t able to order from their suppliers since they had no business to run. One shop unable to operate has affected so many, the staff, their suppliers, the people those suppliers employ. When the electricity was finally restored after 6 weeks, a big storm hit Brisbane and there was more flooding in the car park that shorted out their newly repaired switchboard.
The businesses of West End Central are now back and operational. So to show support I am gathering a group of willing eaters to have a progressive dinner at some of the West End Central restaurants.
Where: West End Central – Boundary St, West End
- 1st course – Tapas at Suburban Cafe
- Main – Orexi Greek Cafe
- Dessert – Freestyle Tout
Cost: Everyone pay for their own food & drinks.
RSVP: As soon as you can for booking purposes. You can post a comment here or find me on twitter @monkylicious email monky [a.t] bellygood.net
If you cannot make it, I encourage you to think about dining at these restaurants, or any of the other restaurants that were affected either directly by flooding or by powercuts. Some of them are still not open yet. But will be soon! Jellyfish and Moo Moo dining have been closed for an even longer amount of time. Jelly fish was completely under water!
If you know any other flood affected restaurants please let me know and I will add them to the list.

red&white south american cafe on melbourne st south brisbane also lost power for many many weeks.. you should add them to your list. a great little peruvian cafe with tasty food and friendly service. such a shame to see them get knocked down!
Thank you!
I will add them to the list. Sounds delicious.
I have seen Moo Moo The Wine bar grill will reopen on the 6th April. I have already made my booking as I love this place. I feel so sorry for the owners as they spent a fortune building it and then to have it shut so soon. I wish them all the best. Please everyone support businesses that were affected by the floods. Only then can we get close to where we w were prior.
Please include Viet Hoa Cafe Restaurant – a Vietnamese Chinese restaurant that is being renovated after the flood and hopefully should be open mid-April. The food’s really yummy of which there’s a wide range of Gluten-free choices and the service is really friendly. Please come by and show your support for this 8yr old small family business trying to get back on its feet. Thanks!!!! =D
your heart is so large! xx
You mean my stomach
