I am such a greedy pig due to the fact that I’ve eaten out a lot lately :P. First up was to celebrate Rach’s 30th Birthday, we went to Ca de Vin, a restaurant in the middle of a laneway, and due to the fact that there was constructions next door, they have sealed off this semi alfresco dining area, making it more romantic by just using very soft lighting(and I am sure it is also less chilly during winter).
We ordered bruschetta ($15) to share, which came out not like the “normal” bruschetta that we have. This bruschetta has huge thin slices of onion, whole oven-baked cherry tomatoes and sprinkles of basil on toast bread. I think I still like bruschetta with sliced Bocconcini, tomamto and basil better. Maybe cos we’re sharing it, somehow the ingredients were falling off the bruschetta, and you either get the tomato or the onion or nothing on the bread- you can never taste a mouthful of tomato, onion basil bruschetta in one single bite. That being said, the bread is really fresh and soft and yummie and I am still thinking about it.
I ordered a linguine with crab, saffron, garlic and chilli ($25). I asked for extra chilli as I am such a big chilli fan and they actually charged me $0.5 extra for that! FFS what decently priced restaurant charge people $0.5 for a measly few slices of extra chilli?! And they didn’t even tell me that it’s $0.5 extra until I got the bill! Although I’m not happy with that, the dish came out fabulous-a beautiful balance of moderately spicy chilli, aroma of the garlic, rich colour of the saffron, the taste of the sea with the crab and linguine cooked just right… yummm. It was slightly oily but I happily soaked the oil with the bruschetta… hrmmmmm let’s hope that it’s olive oil that I am eating…
Heang ordered a octopus entree, which is really tiny but good. Lesley ordered a lamb skewer which was cooked just perfect but tiny also. Rach ordered a salmon salad and Angelique ordered a pear and goat cheese salad. I am assuming it was good but then I was too busy digging into my pasta
