Half Time Tea Bar – One Time Only?

Half Time Tea Bar
Cuisine: “Chinese”

To be honest I think we sabotaged ourselves with this one. So at some stage, most likely in the New Year, I will probably give the Half Time Tea Bar a second chance.

The Half Time Tea Bar is a little Asian cafe restaurant in Market Square. It has taken about half of the space that used to be occupied by the Marigold Chinese Restaurant (which to be honest I haven’t missed at all)before half of Market Square burnt down .

I walk past Half Time when I go to Yuen’s chinese supermarket and I’ve always wanted to try their buns and other snack foods. So when a few friends wanted to have dinner at Malaya Corner I suggested Half time as an alternative. For some reason though I didn’t order any of the things I intended to try.

There are certain dishes that typical Asian families do not generally order or eat. So we decided to order some of the things my parents never let me order, the ones that apparently are not “real” chinese foods.

This was what we ordered. I hope my parents don’t find out and disown me.

Mongolian Lamb
Honey Chicken
Fried Rice – Two types, one spicy, one not spicy.
Salt & Pepper Pork Ribs

Mongolian Lamb or Beef - Half Time Tea Bar

I only have a photo of the Mongolian Lamb.. or maybe it was beef.

Eaten it all - Half time Tea Bar

Yes we ate it all. We were hungry.

Thumbs Down - Half Time Tea Bar

But the salt & pepper pork was much too salty. And the Honey Chicken was too sweet! Maybe that sounds like your kind of meal. But I think a lifetime of eating “real” chinese has left me unprepared for an overdose of extreme flavours.

Vanilla Milk Tea - Half Time Tea Bar

They have bubble teas! These are difficult to make badly. I’ve only ever had one milk tea that tasted powdery – not so nice, and it was not from here. Vanilla milk tea.. mmmmm.

I do want to give it another go and have the yummy buns and snacks. Will report back for round two.
